Sterling K. Brown, born April 5, 1976, is an Emmy and Golden Globe-winning American actor who stands 6 feet tall. He earned three Primetime Emmy Awards, a Golden Globe, and an Academy Award nomination for Best Supporting Actor for American Fiction (2023). Time magazine named him one of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2018.
Sterling K. Brown grew up in Olivette, Missouri, a suburb of St. Louis, where he attended the private Mary Institute and St. Louis Country Day School. He graduated from Stanford University in 1998 with a degree in acting after switching from economics, finding his Federal Reserve internship unbearably dull. He completed his MFA at New York University Tisch School of the Arts before performing in regional theater and early stage productions alongside Al Pacino, Paul Giamatti, and Steve Buscemi.
Sterling K. Brown is married to actress Ryan Michelle Bathé in real life, whom he met when they were both freshmen at Stanford University. The couple married in a small ceremony in March 2006 and held a larger celebration in June 2007. They have two sons together, Andrew and Amara.

I went by Kelby. My mom tells me this story , in kindergarten I came home one day and said, 'Mom, Sterling is eight letters and Kelby is five. I'll just do Kelby and then when I turn 16, I will go by Sterling.'
The impetus for me is that he had been gone for some time, and I was like, 'Kelby was a little boy's name.' I felt like I was ready to become Sterling.
