Odeya Azulay, known professionally as Odeya, is an Israeli singer-songwriter and composer who burst onto the music scene in 2019. Born April 19, 2001 in Bat Yam, Israel, this Aries artist achieved breakthrough success with her 2020 single "Or" (Light), which peaked at number six on the Galgalatz chart and accumulated over 5 million YouTube views. She released three studio albums between 2021 and 2024, earned a spot on Forbes Israel's 30 Under 30 list in 2024, and won the ACUM Achievement of the Year award in 2025 for her album "Yalda Shel Emuna" (Girl of Faith).
Odeya grew up in Bat Yam in a religious home of Moroccan origin and attended a religious school until age 11, when she transitioned to a secular school. After several years, she returned to religious observance and began writing songs about deeper spiritual themes, Judaism, and faith. Before releasing her debut single in November 2019, she recorded a cover of Lana Del Rey's "Young and Beautiful" and auditioned for the Israeli TV show "Music School." She enlisted in the Israel Defense Forces in October 2019.
Odeya maintains a private personal life and has not publicly disclosed information about her relationship status or romantic partnerships. She works with a rabbi who provides spiritual guidance, particularly around questions of women's singing in religious contexts. In 2024, she rented a villa in northern Israel where she isolated herself to write most of the songs for her third album "Yalda Shel Emuna," demonstrating her commitment to solitary creative work.
Her stage name Odeya (אוֹדֶיָּה) means 'I will thank God' in Hebrew.
She wrote hit songs for major Israeli artists including Omer Adam's 'Ani' and 'Yatz'a Shabbat' and Eden Ben Zaken's 'Ma Kara?'
Her song 'Papi' sparked controversy in 2025 when Bad Bunny's legal team complained about the album cover, which was inspired by his DtMf album, leading Spotify to briefly remove the track.
She participated in the 'Women's Singing' project in 2023 alongside Eden Ben Zaken, Narkis, and Nasrin Kadri, with their single 'Tehamer Alai' reaching number four on the Media Forest chart.
She released a mini-album called 'Iron Swords' in November 2023 with three songs inspired by the Gaza war.
I know there is an interest in women's singing, but I have a rabbi who I go to and he strengthens me a lot.
Since my return to religion, I have been writing about slightly deeper topics; about Judaism, the soul, about the Creator of the world.
