Hey
Emmy-nominated actress and former ballet dancer
She received Emmy and Golden Globe nominations for her title role as a struggling single mother in the Netflix miniseries Maid (2021).
Sarah Margaret Qualley (born October 23, 1994) is an American actress and former ballet dancer. The daughter of actress Andie MacDowell, she gained recognition playing Jill Garvey in HBO's The Leftovers (2014-2017) after debuting in Palo Alto (2013). She earned Emmy nominations for Fosse/Verdon (2019) and Maid (2021), and received Golden Globe nominations for Maid and The Substance (2024).
Qualley trained as a ballet dancer from age 14 at the North Carolina School of the Arts, earning an apprenticeship at the American Ballet Theatre and studying at New York's Professional Children's School. At 16, she quit ballet after receiving an offer from the North Carolina Dance Theater company, choosing instead to pursue modeling and then acting. She attended the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art summer program in London and briefly studied at New York University before leaving for acting roles.
Qualley married music producer Jack Antonoff in August 2023 after they began dating in 2022. Her mother is actress and model Andie MacDowell, and her father is former model and rancher Paul Qualley, who separated when Margaret was five. She has an older brother Justin and an older sister, actress and singer Rainey Qualley, and the family has Scottish ancestry through their mother.
She made her modeling debut at 16 during New York Fashion Week 2011, walking for Alberta Ferretti.
She is a Chanel house ambassador and has appeared in numerous campaigns for the brand.
She made her debuts as a debutante at the Bal des débutantes in Paris alongside her sister.
She choreographed much of her dance routine in the viral 2016 KENZO World commercial directed by Spike Jonze.
She got her first acting role in Palo Alto (2013) because she was visiting her then-boyfriend Nat Wolff on set.
I wrote to my mom saying 'Look, I don't think I want to be a dancer any more so I'm going to quit ballet and stay here. I will have this and this income next week.' I laid it out in a way that she couldn't say no because I was so organised.
The modelling agency I signed with forced me to shorten my full name, and similar to my mother, Qualley went by my middle name. I regretted the decision but have no plans to change it.
