Born as Pranpriya Manobal, Lisa legally changed her name to Lalisa, meaning "the one being praised," on the advice of a fortune teller. She began taking dance classes at age four and competed in numerous contests, including joining the dance crew We Zaa Cool alongside BamBam of Got7, winning the Special Team Award at the LG Entertainment Million Dream competition in 2009. In 2010, at age 13, she auditioned for YG Entertainment in Thailand and was the only one selected among 4,000 applicants, officially joining the label as its first non-ethnic Korean trainee on April 11, 2011.
Lisa is an only child raised by her Thai mother, Chitthip Brüschweiler, and Swiss stepfather, chef Marco Brüschweiler, in a Thai Buddhist household. She completed secondary education at Praphamontree School I and II and is multilingual, speaking fluent Thai, Korean, and English, along with basic Japanese and Chinese.
