Hey
Martial artist, actor, and stunt performer
He became a global action icon by performing his own dangerous stunts and pioneering the blend of martial arts with slapstick comedy in films like Police Story and the Rush Hour franchise.
Jackie Chan, born Fang Shilong on April 7, 1954, is a Hong Kong martial artist, actor, and filmmaker known for his acrobatic fighting style, slapstick comedy, and death-defying stunts performed without stunt doubles. With a career spanning over 60 years and films grossing over $6 billion worldwide, he remains one of the most iconic action stars in cinema history. His breakthrough came with Snake in the Eagle's Shadow (1978) and Drunken Master (1978), leading to Hollywood success with the Rush Hour franchise and an honorary Academy Award in 2016.
Chan spent his childhood on the grounds of the French consul's residence in Victoria Peak, Hong Kong, where his father worked as a cook. In 1960, he was sent to the China Drama Academy, a Peking Opera school run by Master Yu Jim-yuen, where he trained rigorously in martial arts, acrobatics, and acting for a decade. He became part of the elite performance group Seven Little Fortunes, earning the stage name Yuen Lo, and later worked as a stuntman in Bruce Lee films before transitioning to leading roles.
Chan married Taiwanese actress Joan Lin in 1982, and they have one son, Jaycee Chan, born in 1982. He also has a daughter, Etta Ng Chok Lam, born in 1999 from a relationship with actress Elaine Ng Yi-Lei. In 2025, Parade reported his net worth at $400 million and noted his plan to leave his fortune to charity rather than to his son, reflecting his belief in self-made success.
He performs all his own stunts without stunt doubles and has broken numerous bones throughout his career, earning two Guinness World Records in 2012 for most stunts by a living actor.
His films have grossed over $6 billion worldwide, making him one of the highest-grossing action stars in cinema history.
He trained in multiple martial arts including kung fu, hapkido, karate, judo, taekwondo, and jeet kune do, eventually earning a black belt in hapkido.
He is an operatically trained vocalist who released several pop music albums in the 1980s and 1990s and performed theme songs for many of his films.
He has a star on both the Hollywood Walk of Fame and the Hong Kong Avenue of Stars, and received an honorary Academy Award in 2016 for his contributions to cinema.
I do small things. I try to do good things every day.
I never wanted to be the next Bruce Lee. I just wanted to be the first Jackie Chan.
Don't try to be like me. Try to be like yourself. Try to be very good at being yourself.
