Hovi Star is an Israeli singer, songwriter, and voice actor who rose to prominence through Kokhav Nolad (Israeli Idol) in 2009. He represented Israel at Eurovision Song Contest 2016 with the song 'Made of Stars,' finishing 14th overall. He has composed songs for multiple Israeli artists and voiced characters in Hebrew dubs of films including The Lego Movie, Inside Out, and Frozen Fever.
Born Hovav Sekulets in Kiryat Ata, he began auditioning for children's programs at age 6. He served three years in the IDF, performing in military bands including the Home Front Command and Military Police bands. He is trained as a hairstylist and makeup artist.
His parents divorced in his childhood, and his mother remarried basketball player John McIntyre. He was named after his maternal grandfather, Rabbi Habib Biton. He is openly gay and suffered a homophobic incident at Moscow airport in April 2016 when Russian border police tore up his passport and mocked his appearance.
