Hey
Two-time Oscar-winning actress and producer
She became the first woman nominated as both producer and actress for two different films at the Oscars.
Born November 6, 1988, Emily Jean Stone is a two-time Academy Award-winning actress and producer. She won Best Actress Oscars for La La Land (2016) and Poor Things (2023), plus two BAFTAs, two Golden Globes, and a Volpi Cup. Standing 5'6", the Scottsdale-born performer rose from teen comedies like Superbad to prestige dramas with Yorgos Lanthimos.
She performed in 16 Valley Youth Theatre productions in Phoenix before moving to Los Angeles at 15 with a PowerPoint presentation titled "Project Hollywood" to convince her parents. After dropping out of Xavier College Preparatory, she auditioned unsuccessfully for Disney Channel shows and worked at a dog-treat bakery between tryouts. A natural blonde, she later dyed her hair red for roles, creating her signature look.
She married comedy writer and director Dave McCary in 2020 and they founded the production company Fruit Tree the same year. The couple welcomed a daughter in 2021. Stone shaved her head for the 2025 Yorgos Lanthimos film Bugonia, earning her third Best Actress Oscar nomination and her first Best Picture nomination as producer.
Her stage name Emma came from baby spice Emma Bunton; Emily Stone was already registered with SAG.
She stands 5 feet 6 inches tall.
As a child, she developed a husky voice from nodules on her vocal cords caused by colic and excessive crying.
She created a PowerPoint presentation set to Madonna's "Hollywood" to convince her parents to let her pursue acting.
She was the world's highest-paid actress in 2017 and named one of Time's 100 most influential people.
The first time I had a panic attack I was sitting in my friend's house, and I thought the house was burning down.
I made sure I got all A's.
I went up for every single show on the Disney Channel and auditioned to play the daughter on every single sitcom. I ended up getting none.
